Ingredients For Homemade Condensed Milk

  • 2 cups (480ml) milk (full fat or toned)
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 pinch baking soda

Main Equipments Used

  • Heavy bottom pan – I use the Prestige Granite 3-pcs set. You can find it on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/2Q0OMu6
  • Induction cooktop – I use Morphy Richards 1600 Watt Cooktop. You can find it on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/2Jkn4px

Steps In Making Homemade Condensed Milk

  1. In a heavy bottom pan add milk and sugar and bring it to a boil while stirring it constantly.
  2. Cook for atleast 10 minutes or until it reduces to little more than half it’s quantity. You will notice a change in colour and texture. It will become slightly thick and creamy.
  3. Now lower the flame and add baking soda. The milk will turn frothy, keep stirring it constantly for next 5 to 7 minutes till it becomes slightly thick.
  4. Don’t overcook, because once it cools down the condensed milk will thicken up more.
  5. Transfer it in a bowl or jar and let it cool down completely. It will give you around 1 cup of condensed milk.
  6. Store it in an airtight container in a refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Recipe Notes For Homemade Condensed Milk

  • You can use any nut milk instead of regular full fat milk.
  • Keep stirring till it cools down and comes to a room temperature so you don’t get a skin on the condensed milk.
  • Don’t overcook as condensed milk becomes thick after cooling down.
  • Keep scraping the sides and bottom regularly for a smooth condensed milk, as we don’t want any layers forming on it.
  • This recipe can easily be multiplied for more condensed milk.
