Masala Oats

Enjoy these healthy masala oats for a wholesome meal filled with fibre, complex carbs and proteins.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats
  • 3 cups water
  • oil 2 tablespoons
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds/jeera
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup capsicum, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup boiled/frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander, finely chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder
  • salt to taste

Steps In Making Masala Oats

  1. Place a pan over medium flame and add oil. Once it turns hot add the cumin seeds and let them pop.
  2. Now add onions and saute them for couple of minutes, till they turn light golden in colour.
  3. Add tomatoes and cook for another minute, or until they turn soft.
  4. Further add the capsicum and boiled peas. Cover with a lid and cook with couple of minutes.
  5. Now add all the dried spices, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt, cumin powder, coriander powder and mix well. Add a tablespoon of water if needed and mix well.
  6. Further add the oats and water. Cover it with a lid and let it cook for 3-4 minutes on medium flame till oats absorb water. Stir it occasionally in between. Do not over cook, it should have a thick pouring consistency.
  7. Once done, switch off the flame and garnish with fresh coriander.
  8. Serve hot!

Recipe Notes

  • Can add any veggies of your choice.
  • If you are using rolled oats then cook for a little longer time and add few tablespoons of extra water.

5. Tomatoes have turned soft now.

6. Further add the capsicum and boiled peas and mix well.

7. Cover with a lid and cook for couple of minutes.

8. Now add all the dried spices, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt, cumin powder, coriander powder and mix well.

9. Add a tablespoon of water if needed and mix well.

10. Add the oats.

11. Mix till everything is well combined.

12. Oats will be soaked in water.

13. Cover it with a lid and let it cook for 3-4 minutes on medium flame till oats absorb water. Stir it occasionally in between. Do not over cook, it should have a thick pouring consistency.

14. Oats have perfectly cooked now. Add fresh coriander before serving.

15. Serve hot!
