Crispy Suji Potato Bites

Ingredients

For Crispy Suji Bites
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds/Til
  • 1 tablespoon ginger finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon green chillies finely chopped
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon chilli flakes
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1 cup suji/semolina
  • 2 medium boiled potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander
  • oil for frying
For Instant Dip
  • 5 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • ¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning/ oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon red chilli flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon chaat masala

Steps In Making

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Now add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and sesame seeds and let them turn light golden brown in colour.
  3. Now add ginger and green chillies and sauté for few seconds.
  4. Further add water, red chilli flakes, black pepper powder and bring it to a boil.
  5. Now add the semolina while stirring it continuously. Cover it with a lid and let it cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Cook till the mixture is not very moist and forms a ball like structure and stops sticking from the pan.
  7. Now remove it in a bowl and let it cool down a little. Further add mashed potatoes and fresh coriander and mix till everything is well combined.
  8. Now take some mixture and roll them into medium size cigars and then cut them into small 1 inch pieces with the help of a knife.
  9. Keep them in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes.
  10. Now fry them in medium hot oil for 4-5 minutes or until it gets crispy texture and golden brown colour. Do not add lot of suji bites at the same time, else they might stick to each other.
  11. Suji potato bites are ready. Serve hot.
  12. You can also freeze them in airtight container for upto 2 months. Just dust it with some rice flour or corn flour so they don’t stick to each other.
  13. To make the instant dip, add all the ingredients together and mix well. Serve with the potato suji bites.

Recipe Notes

  • If the mixture is soft then you can add some rice flour or corn flour.
  • You can give any shape of your choice.
